CDM Advisory Services

CDM DUEDILIGENCE”: Initial consideration

Ecolutions evaluates potential projects as to their eligibility for registration and approval as CDM or voluntary projects. We direct companies on the next steps towards monetizing their potential carbon assets and generating carbon revenues. Not all projects are eligible for registration under the Kyoto Protocol’ Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Furthermore, some projects not eligible for CDM may be eligible for registration under various voluntary project standards (e.g., VCS and Chicago Climate Exchange). Our team of experts works with clients to help explore and quantify the carbon credit generation potential of the proposed projects.

Advantages of CDM and voluntary due diligence include crystallizing the CER or VER generation potential of proposed projects in advance, thereby enabling the developer to consider this potential while raising the required resources. A pre-registration due diligence also helps mitigating the risk of unnecessary expenditure from developing the Project Design Document (PDD) to the registration process.

Preparing the Project Idea Note (PIN)

The purpose of this document is to provide an insight about the quantity of carbon credits which could be earned from a project as well as an overview of the project along with its underlying assumptions. The PIN usually serves as a marketing document for potential buyers/investors to evaluate the project’s cost-benefit analysis.

CDM and Voluntary Documentation & Registration

We prepare the documents required for national approval, validation, verification, and registration of a CDM or voluntary project. For CDM projects, Ecolutions guides proponents through the different stages towards international CDM registration of their projects. The PDD is the primary document required for registering projects under the CDM. It is critical for a number of key points such as the demonstration of the project’s additionality and contribution to the host country’s sustainable development, the determination of the baseline scenario, and the description of the monitoring methodology. While developing the PDD, our CDM consultants help the client identify, quantify and establish the various aspects of the CDM project cycle.

For voluntary projects, we prepare the Project Document, which is used to verfiy and validate projects by DOEs. We have experience gaining approval with a number of top standards including VCS and Chicago Climate Exchange.

Carbon Contracting

Ecolutions guides project proponents when they settle Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements (ERPAs) with carbon buyers.

Post-Registration services

Ecolutions provides post-registration services such as performance reviews of carbon emissions reductions by a project. These services ensure the optimum performance of the projects in reducing GHG emissions and generating carbon credits.
